League of Legends Team Composition Guide

A strong League of Legends team composition is not only about picking individually powerful champions. A good team usually needs balance between damage, crowd control, engage, durability, scaling and protection.

What is a Team Composition?

A team composition is the combination of champions selected by a team. Each champion brings different strengths such as damage, crowd control, tankiness, healing, shielding, engage or split-push pressure.

Role Balance

Top lane often provides frontline, durability or side lane pressure. Jungle controls map tempo, objectives and gank pressure. Mid lane usually adds burst damage, control or roaming potential. Bot lane provides sustained damage, while Support helps with vision, engage, peel or protection.

Damage Balance

Teams with only physical damage or only magic damage can become easier to defend against. A balanced mix of physical and magic damage can make it harder for the enemy team to build defensive items.

Engage and Disengage

Some teams need reliable engage tools to start fights. Other teams may prefer disengage, poke or scaling. Understanding how your team wants to fight is important before the match begins.

Frontline and Protection

A team with no frontline may struggle in team fights, especially if the carries need protection. Tanks, bruisers and utility supports can help create space for damage dealers.

Scaling and Early Game

Some champions are strong early and want to snowball the game quickly. Others scale better into the late game. A balanced composition should have a clear plan for how it wants to win.
